This job is located in the MRO Production Department, Production Lines Division, at Fleet Readiness Center Southeast, Jacksonville, Florida. The major purpose of the job is to examine, evaluate, and analyze the condition of aircraft components to determine, specify, and control the extent of disassembly and depth of rework necessary to produce a RFU/RFI component, of the highest quality and at an economical cost.

Position Duties/Responsibilities
- Examines aircraft components such as landing gear, arresting gear, catapult, aircraft wheels, flight control attaching lugs, and bushings to determine the required machine processing necessary to repair and restore the component to its required condition and configuration to produce a RFU/RFI component.
- Examines components to determine initial machining and processing for plating and finish machining requirements. Assists production personnel, Quality Assurance (QA), and Engineering in problem solving, and process improvements. Routes Discrepancy Work Orders {DWO's) to correct defective processing required to produce a RFU/RFI component.
- Classifies and annotates on E&E discrepancy sheets, those discrepancies detected during initial inspection that will be corrected. Performs progressive evaluation of components and material to further determine the extent of required processing and depth of rework. Identifies accessories, components, assemblies, etc., which may be acceptable with no further processing required.
- Prepares and issues condition reports and detailed work instructions to Production and Process Shops, in the form of Routed Process Documents, properly tailored Standard, Common, and Emergent Work Orders. Has the ability to determine and estimated time standards, assigned by the examiner to specify and control the depth of rework, processing and testing of components. Provide pre and post inspection briefing to Program Managers and outside Vendors on discrepancies found during examination.
- Through the use of visual examination, the Examiner verifies prior Technical Directive (TD) compliance, or directs the compliance of TD's that are required.
- Collaborates with Aircraft Engineering and provides historical data and feedback information for updating maintenance manuals and issuing new technical directives. Alerts Aircraft Engineering of recurring, repetitive discrepancies and trends of deterioration detected in components and accessories. Submits requests for engineering instructions (REI) on discrepancies found which are not covered in current maintenance instructions.
- Assists Industrial Engineering Technicians (IET's) in the implementation of new components and assists IET's in preparation of proper work documents necessary to provide an economical, high quality component. Initiates action to accomplish process changes in Standard and Common Work Orders, necessary to improve processing, production efficiency, and product quality.
- Coordinates with Planner and Estimators (P&E), Component Schedulers, and Program Managers on programs designed for recovery of usable parts from accessories and components such as the salvage or cannibalization programs. Provides cost estimates to various aircraft platforms Budget Managers and Engineering Managers for labor and material costs.
- Has collateral duty to coordinate with Aircraft Engineering, Production Shops, Process Shops, and QA on any specific Engineering Investigations (El's) or Disassembly Inspection Reports requested on incoming components as well as performing detailed measurements and inspections for Mishap Investigations for all DOD and other Federal Agencies.
- Attends and participates in conferences, seminars, critiques, Quality Inspections at Vendor Sites, and specialized training, both on and off the Naval Air Station. Is required to travel occasionally with very little advanced notice, by various modes of transportation.
