General Engineer

Position Description

Flight Test Engineer (FTE) DP-08XX, 1310, 1515, 1520, and 1550, Code D5K3200, China Lake, CA

The Weapons and Warfare Systems Test  (WWST) Division is seeking a skilled, motivated, and disciplined Flight Test Engineer (FTE) knowledgeable in Weapons Systems Testing and Evaluation for the Sidewinder Technical Project Office (TPO). This position is located at China Lake, CA within the D5K3200 Branch. Full performance level is DP-04. 

The incumbent will be working in a dynamic environment as a member of the Sidewinder Test and Evaluation Team and will be responsible for planning, reporting, coordination, and execution of flight, ground, and lab tests. The FTE will become familiar with the technical details of the AIM-9 family, in order to effectively communicate test requirements and best practices for testing the weapon. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the technical details and standard operating procedures associated with integration platforms including F/A-18, EA-18G, AV-8B, and JSF. The FTE will be expected to draft, review, and submit test plans for use with VX-31 Test Squadron. Other tasking for the FTE will include: scheduling range resources and communicating with range test managers, using AMPSS to schedule aircraft for test, preparing test cards, mission planning, briefing aircrew on planned events, conducting events the test bay, and presenting results to stakeholders. The incumbent will interact with external organizations including but not limited to, Test Squadrons (VX-31 and VX-9), F/A-18 Advanced Weapons Lab (AWL). AV-8B Joint Systems Support Activity (JSSA), F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), Airborne Threat Simulation Organization (ATSO) as well as contractor support teams and vendors. Occasional travel is required to support flight test events, various program support meetings. 

QUALIFICATIONS that will be required to obtain/maintain:

• Non-Aircrew Cockpit Systems (NACS) qualification 

• Power Cart License 

• Air Conditioner Cart License 

• COMSEC
