Position Description

This is a developmental position located in the MRO Production Department, Production Lines Division, at Fleet Readiness Centers (FRC) East, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and
Southwest.

The dual purpose of this position is to provide developmental training to permit advancement to a higher level position in the nondestructive program and to perform traditional nondestructive inspections of various forms of ferrous and nonferrous aircraft metals and engine parts that are processed and manufactured in the FRC by using nondestructive testing equipment and examination methods and techniques to perform inspections.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

Inspector performs traditional, Non-Destructive Inspection {NOi) of castings, forgings, machined parts, test plates, welds, metal cladding, pipes, bar stock, flat metal sheets, airframe and engine assemblies utilizing NOi test equipment and chemicals applicable to the total range of nondestructive examination methods.

These parts and/or assemblies are examined as they are inducted into the facility to determine the existence of flaws or defects. The parts and/or assemblies are examined again after one or more steps of rework to determine if the unit still meets specifications.

Calibrates and operates traditional test equipment such as eddy current testing (ET) equipment, magnetic particle testing (MT) equipment, penetrant testing (PT) equipment, visual testing (VT) equipment and temper etch (TE) equipment according to specifications for the particular type of test equipment and to use the required various techniques or methods for examination.

Inspects parts for flaws or defects, discontinuities in patterns, interprets indications and documents flaws or defects in material and prepares reports on defective parts.

Works with subordinate inspectors to set the pace and demonstrate proper inspection methods and may be required to work with trainees. (Example: Trainees performing inspections must be performed under a cognizance inspector that is qualified to certify).
