Position Description

The primary purpose of the job is to perform specified operations as directed in the disassembly, cleaning, overhaul, repair, test and installation of aircraft oxygen and related components. The incumbent is required to be qualified to perform Aviation Life Support System (ALSS) related work.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

Working from supervisor's instructions, prints, publications, technical directives or appropriate technical data, overhauls, repairs, tests oxygen breathing regulators, support equipment
regulators, aircraft oxygen, fire extinguisher and ground support equipment pressure gages and capacity gages. As directed from the immediate supervisor or higher graded worker, perform the following duties: overhauls, repairs, and tests aircraft liquid oxygen components such as, pressure switches, pressure opening and closing valves, shut off valves, check valves, regulators and converters. Overhauls, repairs, and tests aircraft and general fire extinguishers and life raft systems components, such as, various capacity cylinders, aerospace project cylinders, CF3 BR cylinders, life raft cylinders, cutter heads, actuating cylinders and valves, charge and test CO2 and mixed gas cylinders. Overhauls, modifies, repairs and tests ground support equipment such as, liquid nitrogen supply, transfer and testing systems, liquid and gaseous oxygen servicing trailers, air-nitrogen servicing trailers, liquid oxygen and nitrogen storage tanks. Removes wire from wire wrapped cylinders. Inspects, vibro-peens and test wire wrapped cylinders. Overhauls, repairs, and tests components, such as, cylinders, gages, regulators and ALSS survival kits. Hydrostatically tests all nitrogen, oxygen and fire extinguisher cylinders. Operates transfer pump converting liquid nitrogen to gaseous nitrogen. Fills nitrogen CO2 and CF3 BR fire extinguishers. Orders necessary parts; routes components for cleaning, corrosion treating, metal repair and painting as required. Proof tests air conditioning and heating ducts, aircraft fuel ducts and engine bleed air ducts. In accomplishing the above work, all types of special and standard hand tools, are utilized. Following equipment is used in testing and finalizing work, regulator/converter test stand, flow meters, dead weight testers, vacuum, high/low pressure systems, wire wrapping and de-wiring lathes, gaseous oxygen cascade transfer and charging systems; electrically heated ovens, hydrostatic test machines and moisture monitors.
